Professor-level Senior Engineer Liang Jiangdong from the High Voltage Research Institute, in his book Modern Engineering Lightning Protection Technology (Electric Power Press, 2015), presents a core philosophy that addresses the shortcomings of traditional lightning protection systems. He innovatively developed a new type of lightning protection product called the "Corona-Free Field Gradient Lightning Eliminator" (hereinafter referred to as the "Lightning Eliminator"), with the expectation of eliminating the hazards of lightning to the greatest extent possible for the benefit of humanity.
The Lightning Eliminator adopts a corona-free discharge structure, preventing the accumulation of space charges and avoiding the "obstruction" of the formation of upward discharge leaders. Simultaneously, without requiring an external power supply, it senses and stores energy from the thundercloud's electric field, generating intermittent pulsed discharges. This process produces upward leader discharges, propelling oppositely charged ions induced from the earth toward the thundercloud. This early neutralization of the thundercloud's charge prevents or intercepts potential downward discharges from the thundercloud, eliminating lightning at its source and preventing lightning disasters from occurring.
